Extras that suit a day out
Add breakdown and recovery, legal expenses, or a European extension for cross-Channel day trips.
Start any time
Midnight to midnight, or 9am to 9am. Cover runs for 24 hours from whatever start time you choose.
Day cover in practice
One day is our most popular duration. It is long enough for a proper journey there and back, and it costs only a little more than eight hours. Two, three and five day options follow the same pattern, each cheaper per day than the last.
The standard excess is £500 (£1,000 for drivers under 25). You can reduce it to £250 with the excess reduction option at the quote stage.
Driving abroad for the day
Policies of a day or longer can include the European driving extension, which adds cover for driving in EU countries. It is selected as an optional extra on the quote page and shown as its own line in the price.
Cover applies in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. For trips of a day or longer you can add the European driving extension.

Questions
Daily car insurance: common questions
- How much is one day car insurance?
- From £16.76 for an experienced driver in a standard car, including Insurance Premium Tax. Young drivers, higher-value cars and business use cost more, and every factor is listed on the quote.
- Does one day mean a calendar day or 24 hours?
- 24 hours from the start time you choose. If you want it to run from 6pm today to 6pm tomorrow, that is exactly what you get.
- Can I buy one day of cover to drive a car I have just bought?
- Yes. This is one of the most common reasons to buy a day policy. You need the registration, which the seller can give you before you travel.
- Is two days cheaper than two separate one day policies?
- Yes. Longer policies are cheaper per day, so buy the full length you expect to need.
