Car insurance for one hour

Sometimes an hour is all you need: a lift to the station, moving a car off the drive, a quick test drive. Hourly cover is comprehensive and priced for the short job it is.

From £9.15 for one hour, including Insurance Premium Tax. No admin fees, no renewals.

How hourly cover is priced

Each duration has its own base rate, and the shortest durations are the cheapest in absolute terms. If you are likely to need more than a few hours, a full day usually works out better value, and the quote page lets you compare instantly.

The standard excess is £500 (£1,000 for drivers under 25). You can reduce it to £250 with the excess reduction option at the quote stage.

Timing your cover

Choose the start time on the quote form. The policy ends exactly the chosen number of hours later, and the times are printed on your certificate. Give yourself a margin: if the job might overrun, pick two hours rather than one.

Cover applies in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. For trips of a day or longer you can add the European driving extension.

Questions

Hourly car insurance: common questions

Can I really buy car insurance for just one hour?
Yes. One hour is our shortest policy, and two, four and eight hour options are available for slightly longer errands.
How far ahead can I book an hourly policy?
Up to thirty days ahead, or as soon as fifteen minutes from now.
What if I need a little longer than an hour?
Policies do not extend, so choose a duration with some margin. Two hours costs only a little more than one.
Is hourly cover comprehensive?
Yes. Every duration, including one hour, is fully comprehensive.
